Interview with Piero Di Lorenzo
Vaccine: the macaques have been injected with the vaccine and did not get sick
Tests on macaques (whose body is akin to those of humans) show no side effects, and clinical trials have begun thanks to these good results. “If everything keeps going well, the vaccine studied in Italy and tested in England could be approved as early as the end of September , given the emergency”, told Piero Di Lorenzo, President and CEO of IRBM, just three weeks ago. This Italian company, located in Pomezia (Rome), is working on the Coronavirus vaccine in partnership with the researchers of the University of Oxford. Di Lorenzo now adds sensational news: “The Jenner Institute of Oxford has recently signed an agreement with a multinational drug company, for the production and distribution of billions doses of the vaccine”. Di Lorenzo then explains why this Anglo-Italian vaccine has been developed so fast, how the trial is going and when we can reasonably hope that the vaccine will be available to everyone.
